In Acts 2:41 – 47 we read of a vibrant church body that was creating quite a stir in town. Among this body many exciting things were happening: people were being saved and baptized, those new Christians were growing under the teaching of the apostles and having fellowship, all that believed were coming together in spirit and unity, and they were “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:47) This is the picture of the church as it formed, and existed shortly after Pentecost and what I believe is a Biblical basis for what today’s church should strive to become. Sounds exciting doesn’t it?
I was saved on June 23, 1983 and have seen many changes over years, but there has been one constant and that is the faithfulness of God! I have seen the goodness of Gods people and this local body of Christ throughout my lifetime and am honored to be a small part of this “Family Focused on Christ.”
As a husband, Father, and as a Christian… I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a church family as a part of your daily life. Where you choose to invest your time, talents, gifts, and family will have a great impact on your Christian life and growth. But most importantly, if you have never trusted Jesus Christ as your savior, that is the most important decision you will ever make. Without Him, we forever remain lost sinners, regardless of our heritage, family, finances, or church membership. This example is set forth in Scripture and especially in John 3 where we meet a man named Nicodemus.
Nicodemus had it all. He was intelligent, wealthy, well respected, and influential in all the right circles, yet Jesus told him plainly “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” – (John 3:7)
And that is the great question that you must decide… Have you been born again? Have you been made a new creature in Christ? For without Him, we have no hope. This is the question in life that we all must answer and no one can answer it for us. I ask you to truly consider this question in your heart, and listen for God’s voice. If you have never been saved, call out to God in Faith… admitting that you are a sinner, and ask Him to forgive your sin and cleanse your heart, trust and believe Him as you confess Him to be Lord of your life. This decision is the most important one that you will ever make!
Secondly, you need to find a Bible believing church who can help you as you grow in your faith and decide how God wants to use you as you grow and mature in your new life in Christ.
For the Christian, there is no greater influence on your Christian life and growth than being a part of a Bible believing, God honoring church that preaches and teaches Gods Word without reservation and seeks to honor Him in every aspect. That is what we strive to do at Mt Carmel Baptist Church… and we invite you to come and join us as we “Grow together in grace and knowledge.” – 2 Peter 3:18
I am excited about what the Lord is doing within His body at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and we’d love to invite you to come and be a part of this journey as we exalt Jesus Christ… “The same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Heb 13:8)
